END OF SEASON REVIEW - 12 AND UNDER
The next end of season review features our inaugural 12 and Under side. Playing on friday nights, the 12s were victorious in their second ever match, a win against Salisbury West, on their way to compiling a 5 win 6 loss record for the season, with a couple of matches cancelled due to covid and extreme temperatures. The 12s side beat every single other side with the exception of the eventual premiers, and made the semi finals with a win against the second placed team in what turned out to be the last minor round game. Unfortunately they found Eastern Park too good on the day, but it was a stellar season regardless of the outcome.
A team high score of 3/184 in round 3, plenty of lads making runs and taking wickets, and an association fielding winner capped off a remarkable season that saw everyone having fun and improving their skills. Here's what coach Tim Maddern had to say:
"The 12 and Under cricket team had an outstanding season this year, especially considering the fact that this was the first season of competitive cricket for many of the boys. There were plenty of highlights for the team, with their first win of the season against Salisbury West, and a victory against North Pines to win a place in the finals, standout moments. For this team to experience success against every team other than Eastern Park throughout the year, and to play a final in their first year together, really is an amazing achievement.
It was really pleasing to see how much the team improved throughout the year. This was especially apparent in our bowling, as we had 23 ‘extras’ (no-balls and wides) in our first game, and this number steadily decreased as our bowling and fielding became more consistent. It was also brilliant to see each player develop their batting as the year progressed. The boys started to understand the need to be able to play defensively and offensively, and it was great to see some really good partnerships develop at the crease.
The players to represent this team during the 2020/2021 season included (in alphabetical order):• Will Atkins• Joshua Britcher• James Carn• Tristan Cooper• Archie Crawford• Mitchell Donaldson• Mitchell Ellis• Jayden Horskins• Joash Lovin• Archer Maddern• Cohen Pedler-Jones• Elijah Smith
Our end of season award winners were:• Batting Trophy – Joshua Britcher• Bowling Trophy – Mitchell Ellis• Fielding Trophy – Tristan Cooper• Coaches Award – Archer Maddern• Most Improved Player – Archie Crawford• Cohen Pedler-Jones also tied for the Fielding Trophy for the Para Districts Cricket Association (12 and Under Competition), which is another superb achievement.
We look forward to seeing these young cricketers continue to enjoy the game and develop their games in the coming seasons."
